Hi,

If you have mentioned what was the possible cause of your irregular periods according to your doctor, more accurate answer might have been possible. Irregularity in periods can occur due to many causes that affect the reproductive hormonal balance. The factors can range from:
- Psychological
- General causes like anemia, alter blood sugar levels, thyroid abnormalities
- Polycystic ovarian disease, etc.

To treat the irregularity in the menstrual cycle, the causative factor has to be treated. Combined hormone pills can help in the regularization of the reproductive hormone imbalance and thereby menstrual cycles. The possible causes of your intermenstrual spotting are:
- Withdrawal effect of the combined hormonal pills, after stopping the pills it may take a few months for regularization of the reproductive hormonal levels
- Persistence of causative factor of irregular periods, which should be treated to get regular menstrual cycles.

So, please discuss these things with your doctor get evaluated and proceed accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Sree Gouri S. R., OBGYN
