Hello Swati,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.
You were given right medicines but there are many alternatives and it should be taken for long.Just understand what i want to convey below.
Migraine is very common problem in age 20 to 3 and more seen in females.
there are two types of medicines:
One is called primary prophylaxis in which medicines are taken regularly daily for at least 3 months(duration depends on frequency and severity). This includes
propranolol,
flunarizine, amitryptiline,
valproate depending upon patient's profile, symptoms and choice.Generally this is required when frequency of attcackes more and affecting person's daily routine.
While second is called secondary prophylaxis in which person should take medicines on required basis as and when he/she feels headache is going to be start. its include triptan and NSAIDs group of medicines. This is taken when frequency is less but attack is severe.
Sometime in migraine person is aware which situation(like sunlight, severe noise), some food is going to cause the attack, one should try to avoid such situation and food as far as possible.
Also check for your vision as refractory errors cause headache also.
Hope I have answered your query
