Hello! Thank you for asking on HCM! I would like to explain that mitral vave prolapse is a cardiac disease, and should be treated symptomatically (commonly with beta-blockes, like propranolol, etc0), and kept under periodic medical control, as it may be associated wit hsome complications, like mitral valve regurgitation, mrchanical valve complications, (like chordal rupture, etc, when a myxomatous disease is the reason, etc), arrhythmia, etc.
The main complains of a
mitral valve prolapse are palpitations, bouts of anxiety and unpleasant feelings, atypical relapsing chest pain, etc.
When motral valve prolapse is associated with
mitral regurgitation, you need to be careful and use prophylaxtic antibiotics before
invasive procedures, like
dental extraction, several endoscopies, etc. to prevent
endocarditis.
To quantify possible mitral regirgitation, you have to perform periodic cardiacultrasound by your cardiologist.
Ar the end, I would like to assure you that mitral valve prolapse is a frequent finding in normal healthy persons. b3esides some subjective complains, it is generally tolerated very well. So don't worry! Just keep monitoring for possible complications, as I adviced you above!
Hope to have been helpful! Greetings!
