Suggest Treatment For Moderate Hepatic Steatosis And Dizziness

Latest CT Scan says : Borderline hepatomegaly. Mild to moderate hepatic steatosis. I ve been having so many problems, fluid retention, dizziness, blood flow problems, chest pain, etc , reoccurring infection w kidneys or behind liver or something, Levaquin knocks it out , but 3 or 4 days after stopping levaquin, symptoms start back. What would be the next move for me to make? I am so sick but I haven t gotten any where with anyone. The only cardiology exam left that we haven t looked at is heart Cath. I m very not well, but no one has been able to give me much to go on. Please help in any way that you can. Jacob

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

There is no specific symptom for Hepatic Steatosis in initial stage. But some people may have malaise and fatique. Symptoms are predominantly seen in advanced stages where they may have ascitis and jaundice.

I order for the following tests in such cases to identify the cause.

1. Liver function test

2. Fasting lipids (usually raised)

3. Fasting glucose

4. Full blood count

5. Ceruloplasmin

6. Anti Nuclear antibodies studies. Treatment depends on the cause. If you consume alcohol it is best to quit alcohol now.

Diet containing plenty of vegetables and fruits is a must. Avoid deep fried and fat rich foods. You also need to start exercise to shed extra weight.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
