I came down with a fever the other day and then the next day my mouth started to hurt. Since then, my gums are red and sore. It hurt to eat the first few days but the pain has gone down. When I brush my gums there is pain there as well. Any idea what is going on?

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi. It is herpes labialis, commonly known as cold sores. It is precipitated by stress including fever. It is a recurrent condition (it keeps coming back) but the frequency varies from person to person. However, its nothing serious. apply a mupirocin cream twice daily for 4-5 days. Hope it helps
