I have multiple bumps , some large like cysts. The large ones leak a clear liquid when scratched. But it is not smelly(keratin). It usually smells like water/shampoo that I use after showering. A dermatologist diagnosed as folliculitis and put me on antibiotics . I have been on antibiotics for 1 year now. Not much improvement. I believe I have scalp destroying cellulitis. Need a second opinion., help??
Hi. As per your case history you are having recurrent folliculitis of scalp. My treatment advice is - 1. Avoid applying hair oil for at least 30 days. 2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like fusiderm cream twice daily on large lesions. 3. Use a ketoconazole shampoo on alternate days. 4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics like levofloxacin, cefadroxil and azithromycin taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
