I have a dry persistant cough that only begins about 10:00pm and continues through the night until approx 5-6:00am. I went to a CVS Minute Clinic where I was told this appears to be an allergic reaction. I was given a prescription of benzonatate capsules (100 mg). I took 2 capsules last night and it did not do a thing. I was told to use Flonase 2 times a day as well as take 1 Zyrtec a day. None of this was helpful. I coughed aggressively and persistently all night. At times I could not catch my breath. I really have not coughed at all today. Would Hydrocodone-Chlophener Suspension be helpful for this kind of a cough? I am otherwise in good health. Also, I have only 1 kidney.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Read and understood that you have a dry non-productive cough occurring only at the night. That you have taken Benzonatate capsules, Flonase and Zyrtec without any effect at all. The commonest causes of you having such a severe coughing only at the night and not at all during the daytime are: Allergic to something in your bed, bedroom like molds and mildews. Post nasal drip that occur only during night which irritates your pharynx and thus giving the dry cough.
Hence the part of the treatment is to find the reason and avoid the allergens. I would suggest you to change the bedroom today and you may get relief. You can take any anti-tussive.
