Suggest Treatment For Nagging Pain On Right Calf Muscle Post Delivery
I had a baby vaginally 3 weeks ago and now I have a nagging pain in my right calf muscle. It has been going on for about 5 days now, and each day the pain gets worse and the muscle feels like its tighter, making it hard to walk. Please let me know what this could be, and what I could do for the pain and stiffness?
Pain in the calf after delivery should be investigated for deep vein thrombosis. It happens due to inactivity during this phase and increased levels of Oestrogen hormone.
It may show white swelling of the leg - Phlegmasia albs dolans. The leg also gets hot.
Please do not massage the calf lest the risk of clot getting dislodged and causing thromboembolism which may go to any organ including heart, lungs or brain. Light application of heparinointments may prevent worsening of the condition.
Please get colour Doppler and ultrasonography of the calf done to confirm the diagnosis.
Please report to your Obstetrician ASAP for the appropriate diagnosis and management. You may have to be hospitalized.
I hope you understand the gravity of the condition.
