Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am an 81 year old female and have come up with a very painful neck during the last 2-3 days. I have very little mobility turning my neck or putting it up or down without excruciating pain. There is no swelling that I can see and the pain seems to be located in the muscles on the left at the base of my skull (from the rope like muscle at the skull and running down into my shoulder) and in the muscle in the upper left shoulder. I’ve been trying to rest, put some ice packs on it and taken several Tylenol. Nothing so far has done mush to relief the pain or give me more mobility. Can you tell me what I’m dealing with here and how to treat it?
Treating neck pain starts with rest, applying cold compressors to your neck for 15 minutes multiple times, applying topical medicine such as voltaren and take over the counter analgesic.
If there is a history of trauma, severe pain, associated symptoms such as muscle numbness and weakness or others you have to visit the nearest medical center for clinical assessment and other essential tests.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Abed Tahrawi
