Suggest Treatment For Night Sweats During Menopause

Hello- I am a 51 yr old woman dealing with menopause and am waiting for blood work results to check hormone levels— having 25-30 hot flashes during the day and horrible night sweats. I’m reaching because I just noticed fine hair on my eyelids! I am of Italian decent, however never have I ever noticed hair on my eyelids. Right above my eyelash line. Have you ever heard of anything like this?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your symptoms are due to menopausal hormonal changes. After menopause, hormonal level starts to decline which is responsible for the symptoms you just described.

You can start low dose hormonal replacement therapy - HRT (ethynyl estradil 10 micro gram daily for 21 days + norethisterone 2.5 mg daily for last 10 to 12 days). It will alleviate all your symptoms.

However, it should be taken only after consulting a gynecologist. But, this type of therapy is not for long-term use.

Usually, these symptoms alleviate in 1 to 2 years after menopause and long-term HRT is associated with other complications like breast cancer or deep vein thrombosis. So, use it for short duration only.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
