I drive a lot to Florida from Ohio, I m noticing my left shin has a numb feeling, and the bone in my foot is hurting real bad. Not sure if this is connected some how ( a pinched nerve???) it s a 16 he drive and I try to utilize the rest stops as much as possible, but the numbing and now foot pain are really become very painful.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You should definitely takes more regular breaks from driving as the foot and leg in the same position for 16 hours at time or even for more than a few hours at a time can develop reduction in blood flow and ease of fluid mobilization which can lead to swelling, pain, and in more extreme cases, the development of blood clots that can lead to more complications. You may wish to see a neurologist to consider a diagnosis of motor overuse or possible Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome if your symptoms do not abate with simple measures of rest or other conservative intervention.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Dariush Saghafi
