Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a recovering drug addict of opiates and within the past year I have had blood work taken to check for different things. A year ago, which was when I was first starting my treatment and counseling, my blood work came back great. At the time I had never used any drug IV. Since then though I had used IV twice and right after a friend used it. Of course, my luck, I have since had my blood drawn within the past 3 months, once at a new drs office(by a psychiatrist & counseling center) and once at my family dr. Both times I have been told that my liver enzymes were high as well as my calcium. Just recently has my family dr ordered a hep c test so I am now just waiting on the results. What do you think I should be expecting next or is it common to have higher liver enzymes over a 3 month span?
Hello. Elevated liver enzymes can indicate hepatitis B or C, but it can also indicate alcohol liver damage, fatty liver disorder, or a problem with excessive acetaminophen intake. If you do have hepatitis, there is treatment for that
