I am 50 yrs old, had a hysterectomy at 45 but left both ovaries. Recently had a Lumbar MRI and they found a 2.9cm cyst on my left ovary. Had Ultrasound afterwards and they could not find either ovary. These tests were ordered by my PCP. Haven't heard anything from her since Ultrasound 3 weeks ago. What do you suggest I do next? Pursue it further or just leave it alone.....
Non visualization of ovaries during ultrasound may be due to many causes like obesity, excessive bowel gas etc. You can rely on MRI findings.MRI suggests a small simple ovarian cyst.Generally these cysts only require follow up and they may regress with time. If size of cyst increases or there is infection, pain etc then it may require further investigations and treatment. These conditions may need treatment for cysts.
Generally simple ovarian cysts only need watchful observation.
