Suggest Treatment For Pain And Swelling Due To Salivary Stones
I have been dx with salivary stones and the pain in the last few days has increased....my ENT says he only wants to remove them when the are swollen because it is easy to damage gland....for past 2 days the area under my jaw was swollen about the size of 1 1/2 golf balls and people were pointing out the lump. Dr was unable to see me today---what should I do -I have had this for at least 6 months and it is getting more intense in pain levels.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted that you have pain and swelling due to salivary stones. It looks that you have stones in the sub-mandibular salivary glands. It is true that your ENT Surgeon's opinion that the swelling and infection be settled a bit. I would advise you in such a situation the following: Get a CT scan of the the area to get a proper diagnosis as to where the stones are. If it is in the duct, it is a simple OPD procedure to get the stones out and you will be fine. If the stones are in the substance of the gland, the treatment is removal of the submandibular gland. Get a coverage of an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medicines, get the investigations of the blood and urine done and get on the proper treatment.
