Suggest Treatment For Pain And Tenderness In The Abdomen

hello, I was hospitalized for diverticulitis a month ago, they said i had an abscess and started me on iv antibiotics. i was sent home on the antibiotics (orally) and went to see the dr a week later and had another ct scan that showed i had fluid buildng up around my intestines. they sent me home and told me to come back in a week to get a refurral to a specilast. when i went back the dr i was still having pain and tenderness . the dr i had been seening was not in the office and a new dr who didn t even read my chart set me home with another perscription for the same anibiotics and now pain killer on top. I have been on antibiotics for over a month now and just had another flare up 3 days ago and still can t use the restroom and still in minor pain and really tender. my questions are, is this normal, should i go to the hospital again and should i find another dr before my condition get any worse?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
You have complication of diverticulitis in the form of an abscess and peritonitis and this is not at all normal in the normal course of the disease of diverticulitis.
Hence I would advise you to go back to the hospital to get a proper clinical evaluation by a Gastro Surgeon and get investigated and operated if necessary so that a proper healing occurs and you do not get flare ups.
Till then continue the antibiotics, be on fluid diet only. Take rest.
Avoid dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.
Blood tests for CBC, electrolytes; culture and sensitivity can help further in proper medications.
