Suggest Treatment For Pain In Neck And Shoulder With Severe Headache

I fell asleep in the recliner. Head fell forward. Since then I ve had this pain in my neck and shoulder. It s been causing me headaches when I sleep. When I wake up I have a terrible migraine. Cannot lay back down because pain gets worse. It s been over a month now. At least 3-4 days I have a headache each week. They are unbearable and only 2 excedrin migraines relieve it some but not completely.

Hello,

I suggest a course of anti-inflammatory medication like Ibuprofen and a muscle relaxant like Flexeril for a couple of weeks since the pain seems most likely due to neck arthritis with muscle spasms after that episode you describe.

If symptoms persist then maybe imaging should be done to exclude other causes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Olsi Taka, Neurologist
