Suggest Treatment For Pain In Rib Cage After An Injury

I was yanked pretty hard and dragged a few feet across my lawn by a stray dog when I grabbed it s collar back in the spring of last year. I should have let go, but held on for dear life! Since then, I have had a dull, sporadic pain that is tender to the touch under my left rib cage, on my left side and around to the back (like a band from front to back). I have had an x-ray that revealed nothing, as well as a blood test and urinalysis. All revealed that I was in good health and no damage to my organs. It doesn t hurt very much. I m just surprised that it s taking so long to heal. I don t want to take 800 mg of ibuprofen every 3 hours. I just don t feel comfortable with that. I am left-handed and tend to lift with that side. I have no other symptoms. Should I be concerned that something else is wrong?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Dear patient
Rib injury would usually takes a month to heal and since 1 year is passed and still you are having pain it needs to be worried and investigated. I would are devise repeat Xray of chest pa view and CT scan of chest to rule out lung a revised rib pathology a red is ends it might be due to underlying tumour. Do you smoke? Smoking increases risk of tumour. If report is a red is ends normal take a visit to chest physician and get yourself examined. All the best .
