Suggest Treatment For Painful Hard Cuticle Skin Around The Thumb

I have painful hard cuticle skin around the thumb and the two fingers next to it. I ve tried over the counter cuticle softener and it does not work. Please tell me what should I do for this. I ve been suffering with this for about three years. I think it started when I took pottery in college.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hello,

As per your case history of painful skin on thumb, my treatment advice is:

1. Don't squeeze the lesion as it may worsen the condition.
2. Apply a mild antibiotic cream like Fusiderm cream twice daily on it.
3. Take a NSAID like ibuprofen for pain.
4. Other treatment options are topical salicylic acid cream, chemical cauterization done by a dermato-surgeon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Harshit Bhachech
