Suggest Treatment For Painful Sore On Labial Frenulum

For about 5 days I have had a white sore on the lower labial frenulum, as if the outer layer has fallen off. It hurts quite a lot whenever I eat or accidentally touch it. I have no idea what it is nor how to make it disappear. Am I supposed to let it heal or should I take some sort of medicin?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. The symptoms you mention in query can occur due to various reasons . But in your case it seems to me that soreness of frnulum is due to canker sore . Canker sore can occur due to any minor injury physically or chemically like acidic and spicy food . It can also occur due to vitamin B12 deficiency. I would suggest you to do warm saline rinses several times a day. Avoid hot and spicy food as well as nuts which can cause allergy sometimes. Start taking vitamin B12 for at least 10 days. Apply anesthetic gel (lidocaine) to relieve the pain and discomfort. Usually the condition will resolve it self in few days. If it persist after a week then consult dentist for proper diagnosis and to rule out condition like mucocele and cold sores .Doctor may perform various tests and prescribe antibiotics (metronidazole) , anti inflammatory drugs or may perform minor surgery in case of mucocele .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your explanation it seems to be either a traumatic ulcer caused by injury with some hard food stuff or anything sharp injuring the area or injury with toothbrush bristles etc..
If not it can be a canker sore..
Nothing to worry as it will be resolved in 3 to 4 days or maximum a week.
You can apply a numbing gel containing Choline Salicylate or Lignocaine over the ulcer especially during meals to relieve discomfort..
Avoid hot and spicy food..
Do soda bicarb gargles.
Gargles with cold water can also relieve by reducing inflammation..
If there is continuous pain you can take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
