Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am 34 years old and the palpitation started Apr. 6 months before. It happens a total of four times and the last one was scary because blackout was starting and I called emergency; they arrived like ten minutes after and blood pressure, heart beat and oxygen saturation was to normal. My palpitation always starts after I went to bed and just exactly or after I started to be taken away by sleep and then suddenly I realized that it is rising and will be afraid to sleep. After spending sometime walking and or sitting I will go to bed and sometimes it starts over and sometimes it will be just fine. I am hoping that this stuff starts after I bought a memory foam mattress and actually triggered when I drink coffee and or coke and when I worked excessive in the evening or night. I feel that all or some of the combination might be the reason why I get in to such trouble. I decided to stop drinking coffee and coke and stop sleeping on memory foam mattress. I would welcome if u had any suggestions and I will be glad to return and write the progress I will have.
Hi ! Welcome to healthcaremagic. I have read and understood your concern. Palpitations with blackout needs to be investigated. If you are getting these episodes quite frequently then a 24 or 48 hours continuous ecg recording that is 'holtet' will be very helpful in finding out the cause for your symptoms. If your ecg is normal during your symtomatic period it almost excludes any serious cause for palpitation. I would also advise you to get a echocardiography test done which is a simple ultrasonography of heart.
As a word of caution , also check if you have any family history of similar symptoms or sudden unexpected death in family as there are few rare cases in which palpitations need more extensive work up. hope that helps you. Have a good and healthy day.
