Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough Despite Taking Allegra And Augmentin

Hi Doctor. I have had dry cough since August and it does not seem to go. Though the frequency of cough has reduced but it still exists. Also earlier this month I was detected to have blood clot behind my eardrums due to cold. And my ESR was 35. I was given allegra and augmentin with nasal sprays. The clot vanished but the coughing stayed. I visited a general physician and got chest xray and esr checked again. My ESR had dropped to 25 and hilum congestion with infective changes in lungs was detected. I was suggested to take Asthalin because i was facing shortness of breath. But 2 dose a day caused tremors and I had to reduce it to 1 dose a day. Currently, I am facing issues in normal breathing and everytime I need to yawn to take complete air in and the desire to do so is constant. It feels as if normal breathing is not fetching me enough o2. Kindly suggest

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You may be suffering from allergic bronchitis with bronchial asthma.

Avoid alcohol and smoking. Avoid cool drinks and frozen water.

Use water vapor inhalation and salt water gargling thrice a day for five days.

Use tablet Azithromycin.

Use bronchodilators and expectorants.

Get sputum for culture and microscopy.

If symptoms not improved please consult your physician, he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care.
