Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cough

I have had a persistent cough for more than a month. It started before I had to help my household move to another house. The house was infested with roaches and rats, along with a surplus of mold and septic backup in the pipes under the house. My cough didn t get too bad until I started on the laundry room of the old house. Upon sorting the clothes, I unearthed mildew. Since then, I ve had a persistent cough, even though I m completely moved out. I haven t had a lot of rest, although I have a complete lack of energy. The cough is probably due to an excessive amount of mucous. I cough up the most when I wake up and right before I sleep. I have used cough syrup. It helps for a short time. Although the cough isn t as bad now as it was a few weeks ago, it still worries me. The mucous is always thick, but varies in color. Should I see a doctor, or drink plenty of fluids and rest?
