Suggest Treatment For Persistent Ear Pain In Children

Doctor, My child is 7 years old. She had severe ear pain due to cold five days back. Doctor gave her antibiotic (Augmentin DDS) and Pain Reliever (Combiflam). She weighs 32.5 kg. So we are asked to give 10ml of combiflam when required with a gap of 8 hours (strictly followed). This relieves her of her ear pain and fever which occurs every 7 to 8 hours. She has been taking Combiflam for the past 7 days continuously and ear pain still continues. Antibiotics are there for another 4 days. Is it safe to give combiflam for these many days?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi
Welcome to the HCM
The response to antibiotics should be seen by 2-3 days by decrease in spikes of fever and earache. If she is not responding then I would recommend you for repeat clinical evaluation along with culture (if pus discharge present) for any associated complication such as abscess formation, antibiotic resistance. Then change in antibiotics accordingly to sensitivity pattern will be of help. You may continue combiflam for the time being. Ensure plenty of water intake.

Take care
