Suggest Treatment For Pimples Around Tattooed Area

Im 26, 5'10 weigh 195 lbs. I recently got a new tattoo about 2 weeks ago. Well after the first trip everything was fine. But after the second trip to get it finished up which was about 1 week ago I have developed the most painful like pimples around the tattoo. I mean there's one or 2 of those bumps actually in the tattoo but for the most part they are on the surrounding areas. My tattoo artist said it's from applying to much ointments and lotions and clogging the pores. But I have never experienced pimples this painful. They are very red and feel kinda hard to the touch some have white heads and others are beginning to dry out on top hopefully that means they are healing! The tattoo is on my right bicep and runs from the top of my shoulder to the elbow. I have like 7 bumps total. I tried popping one to see if indeed puss would come out but that made it worse. What are they??
