Hello. Thanks for writing to us
Acne commonly affects the young. The severity may vary from mild to severe.
Treatment is guided by the severity of acne. While topicals like
benzoyl peroxide, topical antibacterials like
clindamycin,
nadifloxacin and topical retinoids usually suffice for mild acne for severe acne
oral antibiotics e.g doxycycline, azithromyhcin, minocycline etc and oral retinoids e.g Isotretinon may also be required in addition to the topicals.
Treatment of acne should be begun as soon as possible to minimise the chances of scaring that may result if the disease is ignored initially allowing it to worsen.
Moreover since acne is a recurrent condition, a maintenance topical treatment is usually advisable even during remissions to prevent the formation of new comedones. Topical retinoids like Adapalene gel/ Tretinoin cream are ideally suited as maintenance topical treatment.
I would suggest that you seek an appointment for him from a
dermatologist regarding the best form of treatment for his severity of acne.
