Suggest Treatment For Pleural Effusion In The Lung

Hi I am writing this mail to have your specialized opinion for my aunty who is 55 years old and currently admitted at Yashoda hospital, Ghaziabad. She started with respiratory problem and could not walk even inside home due to breathlessness. Pleural effusion in the right lung was found to be the cause behind it with 3-4 liter of water filled over the lungs ( majorly covering the right lung). Around 1.5 liter of water was removed and it was analyzed with rest of the fluid leaving inside the lungs only. ADA and Gen-expert were done to test the possibility of TB however both tests were found negative. TB culture report is also awaited. On the basis of the fluid analysis report she was diagnosed with TB and medicines to cure TB were started. Later on an ovarian cyst was located with the possibility of ovarian cancer as CA -125 result was 78. She was operated and the cyst was removed ruling out the possibility of cancer (as per gynecologist), biopsy report for the same is awaited. Please suggest if on the basis of fluid analyses report, is it fine to continue with the treatment of TB with all other tests being negative or there can be some other possibility apart from TB which is yet to be find out as there are different opinions of doctors on the same. Also suggest tests ( if any ) to confirm the same. Please note that TB culture report is also negative. I would be really thankful if you can provide your valuable and expert advice on the above discussed matter.. Warm Regards

Not all the time pleural effusion is caused by tuberculosis. ADA of pleural fluid is more specific for TB which is negative, you can also go for mantoux test.if mantaux comes out to be negative there are no chances of tuberculosis and pleural effusion is due to ovarian tumour.
