Suggest Treatment For Post Nasal Drip With Cough And Itchy Throat

For 4 weeks I have had an itchy, irritated throat which causes occasional involuntary coughing. Any attempt to laugh also causes an outbreak of involuntary coughing.The cough is fairly dry, but I do experience some mucous build up in the throat which causes some loss of voice, and forces me to try and clear my throat every two or three minutes. I tried a 5 day course of Dalacin without success, and a local Doctor also prescribed a 7 day course of Prednisolone, but, again, no success. Not sure if relevant, but I have had a slight post nasal drip for about 2 years which no local medical facility has been able to eradicate. Any advice or help you can offer would be much appreciated.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have post nasal drip with cough and itchy throat . Sinusitis, Upper Respiratory Track infection, acid reflux, allergies Can cause such symptoms . Sometimes these symptoms can lead to eustachian tube dysfunction if igroned . It can cause irritation and infection in throat that is lead to cough reflex. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor may order certain tests like CT scan , blood test , chest x ray and respiratory function test . Doctor may prescribe antiemetic drug , antibiotics (amoxxicillin or penicillin ) and recommend taking steam , which will be very helpful . For now do warm saline gargles . Doctor may also refer you to gastroenterologist for acid reflux.
