Suggest Treatment For Pressure Headache When Under Stress

I am a 52 year old lady who suffers from temporal lobe epilepsy. The last couple of nights I have been experiencing a feeling of cold across the top of my scalp. This is accompanied by a pressure headache. I have been under a lot of stress recently but this is disturbing my sleep. Should I be concerned?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Judging from your description it seems like tension type headache. It is the most common type of headache, it doesn't have an identifiable cause, often triggered by stress. It is a benign headache for which you shouldn't be concerned. Over the counter pain killers like Ibuprofen are usually effective in relieving symptoms. If it becomes a chronic issue then preventive medication usually with amitriptyline may be considered. Before that though should also try relaxation exercises before sleep.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
