Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been having problems swallowing and feel food lodged in the middle of my chest. Had an endoscopy done by a gastroenterologist his findings were hiatal hernia, mildly prominent diameter proximal lumen, prominent, somewhat obstructing aortic at 20cm irregular z-line 37-38cm. Doctor dilated my esophagus and I felt no change. He recommended another upper GI with barium and pill. Those results came back saying no evidence of hiatal hernia, barium pill extends into stomach without difficulty, probable esophageal dysmotility. Which of these test is correct? should I be concerned or just wait till I have more bouts with swallowing and discomfort?
Hi, both tests you've performed are helpfull, but the most important or the gold standard for esophageal motility disorders is esophageal motility, so I'd suggest to plan and do it in the near future. It wil give you the real pattern of your doubted esophageal dysmotility and a more accurated treatment.
