Suggest Treatment For Prolonged Swelling In Lower Back After Injury
I had a serious fall down concrete stairs last week. There is a lot of bruising, but absolutely no joint or muscular pain. However, there is still serious swelling where my lower back hit the stairs, and I ve been icing it for 8 days. Since there is little pain (only an ache when the swollen area is bumped or hit), I m not overly concerned. But I am curious what could be causing the prolonged swelling

Dear Sir/ Madam,
Thank you for posting your query at healthcaremagic.com. Swellling is part of inflammation component. With rest and icing it will go down. Post fall, the part is tender. Currently the fibres are uniting and any movement you do it disrupt the healing process. So with time and proper rest will go down.
The other component is gravity. If there is an edema gravity will assist in accumulate the edema. Try to keep your leg in anti gravity position if its an edema.
Please revert back to me if you require any further information.
With best wishes Tehzib saiyed (PT)
