Hi I actually do have a question or two...I was diagnosed last year with a polinary embolism and since december of last year I haven t been able to make an appointment with a doctor so here are my questions...can a person with an embolism who drinks alcohol kinda delay the effects of a embolism and another question is how long can I live with the embolism?
No. Alcohol has no good effect on pulmonary embolism and it cannot delay any effects. Also you can live a normal life if you get treated properly. Unless the embolism doesn't become chronic and doesn't cause pulmonary hypertension, life expectancy will be normal.
Thanks for your question on HCM. In my opinion you should stop alcohol. As alcohol will have detrimental effect on pulmonary embolism. It will actually worsens the prognosis. So person who is drinking alcohol will have less effect of drugs and thus worsen the condition. And the prognosis of pulmonary embolism is depends on size of it and involved areas. So if larger arteries are involved than prognosis is not good. But usually five year survival rate is more than 70-80% if regular medication and follow up visuts are done. So no need to worry much. Prognosis is good.
