Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Bladder Infection
I;ve been getting bladder infections for at least 30 years and usually have been prescribed nitrofurantoin,. Other drugs have been tried but now I'm resistant to all. Urologist ordered nitro to be taken daily as a precaution, but recently I was admitted to hospital for knee surgery, was put in isolation and was told to stop taking nitro because it didn't work. Dr. ordered macrodantin and I believe it worked. Usually I'm symptom free . The bug hit again and Dr ordered microbid I was delighted - No nitro= WRONG! it was same. Help! .

Macrobid and macrodantin are the trade names of nitrofurantoin which is the chemical name of the drug. Hence no surprise it has not worked.
If you are symptom free, do you really need an antibiotic?.
You will need an antibiotic cover during procedures like prosthetic surgery for knees etc. but whether you need it it at other times is best answered by your urologist.
