Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Ear Infection In A 9 Year Old

My 9 year old daughter has been an ongoing medical mystery for years. - 9 months she was admitted to the hospital for what they initially believed to be leukemia, end diagnosis was cyclic netropenia - 1 year they did ear tubes because of all her ongoing ear infections -18 months she had a seizure they believe fevoral - 2 years they replaced her tubes and took her andoids and tonsils out. When the surgeon came out of surgery he was so concerned with how her tonsils literally fell apart because they were so rotted. - 3 years they replaced her tubes again because the previous ones fell in to the back of her ear drum so they had to surgically remove. Put a different style of tubes in...They were suppose to move. - Guess what they did and fell back behind the eardrum again. She had ongoing hearing issues which lead to - Teeth - Grace has had horrible teeth...Many abscessed, just plain rotted out and became infected and having the dentist to pull them. - 8 years old Ear Drum reconstruction. (This was April of 2016). She was cleared with a beautiful eardrum and near perfect hearing in June of 2016 - In late fall of 2016 she started complaining that she couldn t hear again. School nurse did a screen and said that everything looked fine. - November of 2016 she contracted MRSA - We continued to battle MRSA through Early Feb of 2017. Fingers crossed we are clear for a while -This week she came down with Influenza A, while the Drs were doing the exam the Pediatrican noticed there was a hole once again in her eardrum... I keep asking the doctors for help...I feel that they are missing something.....SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hello. Welcome to 'Ask A Doctor". I have reviewed your daughter's history and here is my advice.
Unfortunately middle ear infections are common in children. Some, like Grace, have many in the early years of their lives and undergo surgery for tube placement, drum reconstruction, and adenoid removal.
There are some diseases called immunodeficiency disorders that predispose people to infections because their immune system is weak. One of these diseases may cause a person to have frequent skin infections while another makes the patient suffer with many respiratory infections.
Her history of abnormal tonsils, frequent middle ear infections(she is fortunate that her hearing is intact), abscessed teeth, and MRSA(where on her body did she have this infection?) makes me suspicious about an immunodeficiency.
I believe you should make an appointment for her to be seen by a pediatric allergist/immunologist or pediatric immunologist. These specialists are likely to be found at a university medical center. Be sure to take her medical records with you.
Final advice: she should avoid persons who smoke as this predisposes to ear infections and make sure she gets a yearly flu shot.
Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions, I will be happy to help.
