Suggest Treatment For Redness And Swelling At The Insect Bite Site

My son has been bitten by a horse fly - it is very swollen and the red mark is the size of a mans hand. It is very hot to touch and the centre where he has scratched has become pussy. I have given him a Piriton pill and put fucidin cream on, but no change, do i need to take him to a dr or will it go down. Just worried if the infection can spread to his blood stream?
