Suggest Treatment For Regularizing The Sugar Levels
My mother(age 52) is having Diabetics from the past 10 years and she does not have teeth too ....last week her sugar level was 345 mg/dll ..she takes a tablet(Glyciphage) after breakfast everyday and she is weak as she cannot eat most of the food prepared at home. Please can you suggest the steps I should take to improve her health and bring back her sugar level to normal
I can understand your concern. It is indeed a challenging job to feed someone who does not have teeth. You can give her foods like broken wheat porridge or oats porridge cooked with little extra water ( thick consistency) so that she can gulp it down, as they are rich in fibre that helps to manage blood glucose levels and do not require much chewing. You can give her stewed apples by removing skin and give only pulp of apples, do not add sugar as her blood sugar is already high. Grate vegetables like carrot and make a pudding by adding low fat milk. You can use low calorie sweetener to sweeten it but use sweeteners only occasionally. Crush bread slices which are hard or crush cornflakes or wheat flakes to add to milk for breakfast. You can also give her wheat porridge prepared in milk to make it more nutritious. Mash ripe papaya well or grate it so that she can eat it comfortably. Hope this will help you in feeding your mother well. If you need more guidance, then you can always ask me. I will be glad to help you.
