Suggest Treatment For Ringing In Ears

I have had pressure problems in my ears particularly the right for around a decade, my ears pop with the slightest change of pressure (on motorway, on a train, at the shallow end of a swimming pool and every time I swallow) my jaw on the right hand side has got gradually worse over the past couple of years and makes very loud clicking sounds. Due to overproduction of ear wax this tends to amplify mechanical sounds especially when wearing ear phones. For around the past 18 months I ve noticed that my right ear has begun to ring (sounding like a mild version of the noise it makes when you tense your jaw muscles) and this has now become a constant ringing that is more apparent at night and in quiet situations. Is this ringing now permanent? can a badly clicking jaw be fixed? I d appreciate any advise or information that could possibly help.

Hi,

As per your complain it seems that ringing in ears can occur due to causes like ear infection, perforated eardrum, excess ear wax accumulation, eustachian tube dysfunction, Meniere's disease, TMJ disorders, acoustic neuroma etc. I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like audiometry, X-ray MRI can help in diagnosis and treatment can be done accordingly.

Also, the jaw joint need to be checked and an Orthopantomogram or OPG can be done for ruling out the exact cause of the jaw problem and treatment can be done accordingly. If clearng ear wax and treatment of jaw joint does not resolve ringing then you can be advised medicines like Tricyclic Anti-depressant like Amitryptiline, anti anxiety medication like Alprazolam, as well as Multivitamin supplements can be advised. White noise devices can be advised. You can also be advised Neuromodulation. Avoid exposure to very loud sounds and also avoid diving, swimming etc.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
