Suggest Treatment For Running Nose And Cough

My son had a fever yesterday. Has runny nose and cough. Today he c/o sore throat. When I looked at it he does have red spots in top of mouth and tonsils are very red. No white spots noted at this time. He does not grimace when he swallows but he does say it hurts. No fever today. Should I be suspicious of strep?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that your son is suffering from upper respiratory tract infection also known as Common cold and the symptoms of fever, sore throat, runny nose and red inflamed tonsils seems to be due to it..
It does not seems like Strep that is a bacterial infection and looks like Viral infection..
I would suggest you to consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated and a thorough clinical evaluation along with throat swab culture can help in diagnosis..
In case if it is viral infection he can be advised tylenol to reduce fever, anti allergics like Benadryl ,Ibuprofen to relieve throat pain, cough suppressants like Dextromethorphan or Gueifenesin, saline nasal drops, warm saline gargles and steam inhalations...
Taking a soft diet with ample of fluids and sufficient rest will help in faster relief..
In case if bacterial infection is also diagnosed antibiotics will be advised along with other treatments..
