Please the doctor says I have sarcoidosis of the skin. she fist started treatment with celestamime and the symptoms ceased only to return again. She then put me on prednisolone on which I developed massive side effects. She sstopped the prednisone. What should I do?
Hi!! The earlier two medicines prescribed to you are both steroids and they are recommended only in case of disfiguring skin disease, enlarged lymphnodes or systemic involvement. If your disease is not so bad you can go for only topical application of high potency topical steroids. Although steroids are the most effective treatment for sarcoidosis but since you are developing side effects to oral steroids you can go for other drugs like azathioprine, mycophenolate mofetil, minocycline, hydroxychloroquine and methotrexate but the decision regarding this can be made by your doctor after fully evaluating you.
