Hi,I am Dr. Santosh Kondekar (Pediatrician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 6 yrs old daughter had scarlatina a month ago had amoxil for 10 d then 10 days after had an otitis, they gave her cefzil 10 d, and now a month after thé initial sarlet lever, she had a positive strep culture.... She is now on amoxil with clavulanic acid , does scarlatina linger on like that often
How sample for culture was taken- from throat swab or from blood? Was culture done before initial treatment also? If the sample was from throat, and no rash or fever now, this indicates streptococcal carriage, and need not be taken as scarlet fever. If a sensitive antibiotic (as per culture report) is given for a complete course, streptococcus usually clears out rapidly. Your doctor will discuss in detail.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
