I burned my arm approx. two inches below the wrist. The burn resulted from accidentally touching an oven rack and is about 2 long and a bit less than 1/2 wide. It appears to be a second degree burn, but the area around the burn is red. I am not in pain, but should I seek help tomorrow or simply continue to watch the burned area? I am a healthy and fit 73 yr. old female. Thank you for your assistance.
No matter whatever the size of burn you need to seek help because you are 73 and may develop following complications 1. Infection 2. Inflammation 3.Delayed healing 4. Ugly scar formation 5.Fever
Once you seek help your doctor may prescribe silver sulfadiazine or other antibiotics if there is evidence of inflammation. Other than this I frequently encountered elderly patients with minimal infection presenting to emergency department with features of delirium. So to avoid any major or minor complication seek help as soon as possible. Thanks and Regards Dr Santra
