I am almost 24 weeks pregnant and for the past week have been taking some sort of penicillin for a mild vaginal infection. Additionally I have been given fusidic acid cream for the inflammation. I ve noticed though that my clitoris is extremely sensitive, almost like an itch that can t be scratched. What could be the cause of this and what can I do about it?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi, I understand your concern. Mostly antibiotics destroy normal vaginal flora & this makes vagina vulnerable for any infection, inflammation. The swelling & itch in vagina is mostly trichomonal infection . It needs specific treatment in form of flucanozol cream & oral dose with vaginal pessaries if needful. Do not itch/rub clitoris it's a very sensitive part of female genitalia & may get injured/inflamed with least of carelessness. Take an expert gynecologist's advise for doses needed. Thanks.
