Suggest Treatment For Severe Agitation When Diagnosed With Parkinson S Disease
My husband has Parkinson s with the physical symptoms & dementia. He is in assisted care living and has just been put on hospice. Are there any medications that will manage his agitation such as constantly moving and sometimes being difficult like spitting at care givers and trying to hit them? He is stage 5. He can no longer stand or walk. He keeps trying and falls frequently. He also has sundowners. My email address is: YYYY@YYYY
The first line of treatment for agitation linked to Parkinson's disease are the cholinesterase inhibitors (Donezepil, Rivastigmine) that are used to control Alzheimer's symptoms.
Antidepressants such SSRI ( Citalopram, Sertraline ) may also be used for these symptoms. Discuss with your husband's Neurologist about these issues.
Hope I have answered your query.
