Hi,I am Dr. Robert Galamaga (Hematologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a 3.1cm x 2.2cm x 1.3cm endometrial polyp. Endometrial stripe is measuring 2.2 cm. The polyp has a feeding vessel. I am 46 years old and am not premenopausal according to my blood tests, but I have been suffering from severe anemia for years and iron supplements do not help. I have had every test possible to see if I am bleeding somewhere in my body and this is the only sign of internal bleeding. I have very heavy periods and have excessive brown spotting between periods. Do you think the polyp can be causing my anemia, and if so, would it be necessary to have the polyp removed.
Hello and welcome to HCM, According to your history, the endometrial polyp is responsible for heavy bleeding and thus anemia. Endometrial polyps which are small are usually asymptomatic and do not require treatment. However, in your case the endometrial polyp is large and is causing heavy bleeding and anemia. In such a situation it is advisable to get the polyp removed since it removes the cause of bleeding and thus resolves anemia also. Consult your gynecologist for further work up.
