Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I m writing because I ve been having uncomfortable GI/digestion issues for the past 3-4 weeks. It all started after a round of antibiotics for BV, which led to a yeast infection (at which point I took flucadozole), and I have been severely bloated ever since. I take two bites and am incredibly full and my stomach is distended to the point I look 6 months pregnant by the end of the night. I ve read candida overgrowth can cause this bloating (making me think it may be related to the past yeast infection) but I can t seem to make the bloat go away with any amount of water, exercise or diet. Today I noticed that my stomach protrudes in one particular area more than the rest of the stomach. It feels and looks like a bulge halfway diagonal between my hip and belly button (so when I look down my stomach slopes downward, with the bulge protruding outwards). Could this be impacted fecal matter? Or worse? I m very about my bloating symptoms and just want to be able to eat a normal meal. Thank you for your time.
Hello, from what I read above one important fact is the relation of your bloating with the antibiotic therapy. It's true that antibiotics cause many adverse effects in the gastrointestinal tract and this not because of yeast overgrowth, but because of other important changes in quantity and quality of intestinal bioflora. So I d' suggest you some probiotics combined with activated charcoal for a while. Gradually Ithink you will turn back to normality. As for that protruding it' s because of bloating I think, nothing to be concerned about. We can rediscuss in the weeks to come.
Hello I appreciate your concern yes, it might be a impacted fecal matter if you are having prolonged constipation? In my opinion,This could be due to Aerophagia (swallowing of air) may be due to smoking, alcohol, ill fitting denture or consumption of carbonated drinks Other possibility is Acid peptic disease or dyspepsia
Please rule out the above mentioned causes of Aerophagia if it persists even after that than.please consult a gastroenterologist for an endoscopy You may need anti acidity medicines like PPI group as pantoprazole and antacids Avoid smoking and alcohol Avoid fatty fried spicy and junk food Have fresh fruits and fruit juices as well as lemon water Hope this helps you follow up questions are most welcome Best wishes
