Suggest Treatment For Severe Constipation

Hi. My 8 month old has been experiencing extremely painful bowel movements. I stopped breastfeeding completely at 4months due to my work load. He was on similac formula with single grain rice cereal added in bottles at times. I stopped putting cereal in his bottles and there was still no change. I decided to try whole milk. it helped for a short period but now the constipation is back.

Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

You have given the feed so far which all are constipating agents, if he has not passed out stool or has painful bowel movements, then he will require dulcolax suppository (for pediatric) ,to be put directly through anus into the anal canal or inside by himself or by expert paramedic.

It will stimulate bowels after few minutes and easy defecation will be possible.

To avoid this recurrences, always give him diluted milk or it would be best if you could give him lactogen or nan-pro for 6 to 12 months of age baby milk powder as it will not cause constipation.

Consult nearby pediatrician for further help.

Regards,
