Suggest Treatment For Severe Ear Bloackage

Hi I woke up this morning with blocked ears. I have never had this before. They both feel completely blocked and full. The left is worse than the right. I have cleaned my ears with a cotton bud and came away clear. I ve popped my ears too and still it won t go. It s really uncomfortable. What else can I do to get them back to normal?

Hi there, I am sorry that you feel so uncomfortable. However, I need a little more information to help point you in the right direction.
1. Are you by any chance having a runny or blocked nose? Fluid collection in the sinuses (cavities in the skull behind the nose) can make your ears feel as though they are severely blocked.
2. Has there been any fever?
3. Are you having a sore throat or an upper airway infection?
4. Have you been swimming or diving recently?
5. Any chance of fluids / water getting in your ears?
Id' recommend that you visit your regular doctor as soon as it is convenient to have him or her look into your ears with a otoscope (probe for visualizing ear canal and ear drum), check your throat and your sinuses.
I understand that you are very uncomfortable but do refrain from trying to clean your ears again or pop them as you may hurt yourself or introduce infection. Sucking on a sweet or chewing gum might help take away some of your discomfort.
Thanks
