Suggest Treatment For Severe Ear Pain

sir, yesterday I traveled from bangalore to delhi by air. During the flight, I started feeling unbearable pain in my right ear . Its been over 24 hours now, but I am not able to hear from my right ear and having lots of headache . When I fill air in my mouth and force it through my ears , air comes out from the right ear just like air that comes out of a punctured tyre. I am afraid that my ear drum has got damaged. Please help me.

Welcome to HealthCareMagic. Your query has been assigned to me and I am happy to assist you today for the health issues you raised.

No it is not actually the damaged eardrum. Don't worry much. It is natural and is very common to happen with many air travellers. It occurs due to sudden changes in latitude and altitude in very high speeds.

You always need to keep chewing bubble gum during air travel especially during take off and landing.

Now start chewing a sugar free gum for better recovery in a timely fashion. Take Ibuprofen for pain and it will also keep the inflammation down and will give you a pain free spell until you get recovered.

I need to add here that there is a connection of our throat to the internal environment of ear (the Eustachian Tube) that keeps external environmental parameters same in the inside of the body right around the area where there is control of body balance. Due to sudden changes in external environment this Tube gets blocked in spasmodic way.

Dont blow air to see if it leaks through right ear. It is more devastating especially when done on already blocked tube.

Hope it was all you needed the answer for. If you have some more questions or doubts in mind, please let us know to help you. We are all a team of best experts from all over the world to assist patients online. Give your feedback to help us make this service even better.
