Suggest Treatment For Severe Flatulence At Night

My husband complains of my digestion system making very loud noises at night accompanied by gas. I am paying closer attention to my digestion system and it seems like it is always making noise (not always followed by gas/flatulence). I guess I have just become accustomed to the discomfort and noise. Could I be gluten intolerant? The symptoms do not involve constipation or any other symptoms - just noisy tummy and flatulence.

Hi,

Welcome to health care magic,

Excessive flatulence could be due to excess gas production in stomach or excess carbohydrate diet or lactose intolerance.

The main thing that you need to understand from is that excessive flatulence is condition that needs to be targeted through multiple approaches.

Probiotics will help greatly, but what is also important are the other aspects we need to concentrate on which includes:

1) Have 5-6 small meals instead of 2-3 large ones: This prevents leaving your stomach empty for long durations of time which in turn causes gas formation
2)Avoid all those food items that can cause increased gas production (eg. Lentils, potatoes, carbonated drinks, oats, sugar-containing drinks, pasta, beans, candy, gum, milk and dairy products, onions, green peppers, onions, celery, apricots, bananas, pears, peaches, etc.)
3) Drink plenty of water between all your meals as staying hydrated is crucial in preventing gas production
4) Avoid a lifestyle in which you sit in one place for long. Make sure you move around and have at least a 30-minute walk as part of your daily exercise
5) Avoid smoking and alcohol

Once you make sure you approach all these aspects, I am sure along with the probiotic used, you will surely feel a great improvement.

You can consult gastroenterologist for further advice.
