Hi,I am Dr. Subhankar Chakraborty (Gastroenterologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi There I have currently been taking budesonide for three weeks for my chrons and over the last week i have been experiencing bad heartburn after every single thing I eat and drink. I just wanted to know whether this was a common side effect or should i go back to my gastro consultant??? Thanks
Budesonide is steroid with potent glucocorticoid activity, used in the treatment of chrons disease. Heartburn can occur with budesonide in approximately 6% of the patients. Given the benefits of taking budesonide in Crohn's, I would suggest you continue with it and take one of the antacids like omeprazole, ranitidine or sucralfate. Hopefully, this will reduce the heartburn.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Muhammad Zahir Shah,
