Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My doctor has ordered a MRI of the lumbar spine because I have been having hip pain and pain down my leg and in the knee and ankle.....why would I not have an MRI of the hip rather than the lumbar area. I am a 68 year old female and have tested negative for RA. I have also had a series of x-rays within the past two months of spine, feet, and hands to determine issues. I do have mild to moderate arthritis in these areas but the hip has suddenly become very painful and walking is painful.
Hi Welcome to healhcaremagic After going through your query I concluded that you are suffering from arthritis of hip and probably lumbar spondylitis. You are concerned about why your Doctor advised MRI of lumbar spine instead of hip. As you were having pain in your whole lower limb from hip to ankle so origin of pain is likely to be from spine. So your Doctor advised MRI of limbar spine instead of hip. You can discuss with your Doctor about it. Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then please don't hesitate to write to us. I will be happy to answer your queries. Wishing you a good health. Take care.
